Andhra Pradesh is likely to get a bullet train as Union minister of railways Suresh Prabhu has requested Germany to extend a high-speed rail corridor study to Vijayawada on Friday.

The German federal minister of transport and digital infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt agreed to the proposal of extending the Chennai-Bangalore-Mysore high-speed rail corridor study to Vijayawada.

It was earlier reported that the Indian Railways and German Railways would be working together on safety in rail operations for the `Zero Accident Mission' of Indian Railways.

The Zero Accident Mission is likely to start by 2017 and is reported to be fully funded by the German government.

Earlier this year, the Telangana government has requested to Centre to upgrade National Highway-65 connecting the two capital cities- Hyderabad and Amaravati, of the Telugu states with an express highway and a high speed bullet train parallel to the highway.

The main objective behind forwarding the two proposals is to increase road and rail connectivity between the two capital cities and create a growth corridor like the one coming up between Chennai and Bengaluru.
