With the aim of achieving Backward Class status, the Kapu Joint Action Committee plans to launch a padayatra or rathyatra soon, after consultation with party leaders and community elders.

An action plan will be formulated thereafter.

Leaders from all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the Kapu JAC meeting at the BRK Kalyana Mandapam in Vizag on Sunday and decided on this, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

At the meeting, the community leaders stressed on the need to involve different sections of society belonging to the community and also to form separate divisions for students, youth, women, doctors, lawyers to strengthen the movement.

A resolution was passed to staunchly back Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham in the struggle for achieving OBC status for the community, and to impress upon Kapu leaders in political parties to refrain from any criticism against their leader or the Kapu movement.

In the first phase of the padayatra or rathyatra, seven districts of the state will be covered while the remaining districts will be covered in the second phase.

At the end of the yatra, a huge meeting would be held in Vijayawada to portray the strength of the community.

Padmanabham said that he is ready to support Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in the struggle for special category status for Andhra, if the latter sits on a hunger strike in front of the CM’s house.
