Andhra's Machilipatnam witnessed tension on Sunday morning after unidentified miscreants vandalised the statue of former MLA and Kapu leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga.

According to a report in The New Indian Express:

The bust-sized cement statue of the departed leader at Radio Centre in Nizampet area of the town was found destroyed and the broken pieces were scattered on the ground. Ranga’s brother Sobhana Chalapathi Rao had unveiled the statue, installed by Radha-Ranga Mitra Mandali, in 1989.

The police rushed to the spot to try and control the situation, while BC welfare minister Kollu Ravindra, also visited the spot and promised that a new statue would be put up.

“A case has been registered and police are trying to find out the exact time of the incident. We are also looking at the possibility of a vehicle hitting the bust accidentally. No CCTV coverage is available at the centre where the incident occurred,” Krishna District Superintendent of Police  Mr. Vijay Kumar told The Hindu.
