Andhra: Five killed, 10 injured in boiler blast at pharma unit in Tirupati’s Sri City

At least five workers were killed and more than 10 others injured after a boiler exploded at the TIL Healthcare Private Limited, a pharmaceutical company located in Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ), in Tirupati district.

The incident occurred at around 8 am on Saturday, October 3 when workers were engaged in the morning shift at the manufacturing unit. An explosion triggered a fire, leaving several workers injured. The injured were rushed to a hospital within the Sri City premises for treatment.

While initial reports put the death toll at four, Tirupati Superintendent of Police (SP) L Subbarayudu later confirmed that five people had died. Two workers died at the spot, while others succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Three victims have been identified as Gourab Roy (35), Chinna Mastan (36) and Ramesh (40). Vasu (36), who was critically injured in the blast, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai, reports said.

The exact number of workers present at the facility when the explosion occurred is yet to be established. Officials are also investigating the cause of the blast, including the possibility of a technical fault in the boiler. Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after the incident, while authorities began collecting details about the workers affected.

Expressing grief over the incident, Andhra Pradesh IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh described the explosion as a tragic accident and directed officials to ensure that those injured receive the best possible medical care. He also assured the families of the deceased of government support.
