Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, April 24, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of two victims from the state who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir. The Chief Minister made the announcement during a solemn ceremony at Visakhapatnam Airport, where he received the mortal remains of Chandramouli. Naidu paid floral tributes and consoled the grieving family members.
The victims, JS Chandramouli and IT professional Madhusudan from Kavali, were among the 26 tourists killed in the attack.
Accompanied by Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu, State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat, the Chief Minister walked alongside the funeral procession for a distance.
Addressing the media, Naidu condemned the terror attack, calling it an act of premeditated violence targeting India's peace and integrity. “This is not just an attack on individuals but an assault on India's integrity,” he said, referencing eyewitness accounts that revealed Chandramouli's attempt to flee before being shot.
The Chief Minister stressed on the importance of national unity and appealed for public support in strengthening the nation’s efforts to combat terrorism. He also stressed the importance of vigilance and active citizen participation in reporting suspicious activities.
Reaffirming Andhra Pradesh's commitment to national security, Naidu said that the state would remain on high alert, particularly given its long coastline, and would continue to coordinate closely with the Union government to address security challenges.
“This is a time for unity. I appeal to every citizen to support the Union government’s efforts in safeguarding the country. Anyone attempting to destabilise our nation will face the strictest consequences,” Naidu said.
