Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the eight people who died in a road accident at Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. He directed officials to provide the assistance to the bereaved families at the earliest.
The accident took place in the early hours of August 27 at Addaroad Centre in Chilakaluripet town after a private bus collided with an auto-rickshaw carrying 15 people in Palnadu district. The victims, all residents of Veluru village in Chilakaluripet mandal, were travelling in an auto-rickshaw after attending a birthday celebration.
According to the police, the group was returning to Veluru after travelling to Konda Manjuluru village in J Panguluru mandal of Prakasam district. There were 15 people in the auto, including four children, nine women and two men.
As the auto-rickshaw was taking a turn at Addaroad Centre, a private travel bus travelling from Vijayawada towards Tirupati collided with it. The impact left several passengers seriously injured.
Four people died at the accident spot. Another victim died while undergoing treatment at the Chilakaluripet Government Hospital, while two others later succumbed to their injuries at the Government General Hospital in Guntur.
The deceased were identified as Bontha Babu Rao, 62, Bontha Manemma, 55, Bontha Sampurnamma, 70, Choutupalli Laksmamma, 75, Bontha Gangamma, 50, Sowtupalli Suvartha, 45, and Bontha Mariyamma, 45. All seven were residents of Veluru village.
The injured were identified as Talluri Venkayamma, 50, Choutupalli Dhanalakshmi, 30, Talluri Abhiram, 6, Choutupalli Subbulu, 60, Bontha Arun Kumar, 40, who was driving the auto, Bontha Samuel Babu, 6, Bontha Pallavi, 12, and Bontha Divya, 7.
