Senior Telugu actor Vijay Prasad, more commonly known as ‘Vizag Prasad’, passed away on Sunday at the Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad. The 75-year-old was well known for his role as the antagonist in the 2001 film Nuvvu Nenu starring the late actor Uday Kiran, for which he received critical acclaim.

According to media reports, Prasad was suffering from a prolonged illness. He died around 3 am on Sunday due to a cardiac arrest, after having been admitted at the hospital for a chronic health problem. Further details are awaited.

Prasad had also starred in several television serials including Idhi Maa Prema Katha, Allari Bullodu, and Ranivari Bangla to name a few.

Prasad had also acted in one Tamil film, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi, starring Kamal Haasan. Prasad was said to have been introduced to mainstream films with the movie Babayi Abbayi starring Nandamuri Balakrishna.

Many took to social media after his death to express their condolences.

Taking to Twitter, actor Sumanth said, “Rest in peace! Had the pleasure of working with Vizag Prasad garu in Gowri.”

Prasad's death comes weeks after the death of 61-year-old actor-politician Nandamuri Harikrishna, who passed away in a tragic car accident on the Annaparthi road near Narketpally in Telangana's Nalgonda district in August this year.

The son of Tollywood icon NT Rama Rama, Harikrishna was also the father of popular star Tarak, known as Junior NTR. Harikrishna has another son, Kalyan Ram, an actor and producer. His third son, Janakiram was a film producer who passed away in a road accident in 2014.
