A 115.5-foot tall statue of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao will be installed in the state's new Capital Amaravati, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced in Tirupati on Saturday.

The NTR Memorial in Amaravati would be called "Telugu vari Atmagourava Spoorthi" (inspirer of Telugu self-respect), he said.

The Chief Minister paid tributes to the legendary Telugu film star and founder-president of Telugu Desam on the occasion of his 93rd birth anniversary and said NTR rightly deserved Bharat Ratna as he left a unique mark on the political scene not only in AP but also in the country.

The TDP's annual conclave Mahanadu adopted a resolution, on the second day today, requesting the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, on NTR.

The TDP has been adopting this resolution at the Mahanadu for the past few years.
