A picnic turned into a tragedy for a family in Telangana's Jangaon district on Saturday as three of its members were drowned in a reservoir. A man and his two female relatives drowned in the Bommapur reservoir while playing, even as his wife was taking a video of their joyful moments.

The dead were identified as 25-year-old Abhilash, 19-year-old Sangeeta and 15-year-old Sumalata. According to media reports, Abhilash worked for a private company in Hyderabad and had come to Jangaon for a holiday. The group of four, belonging to the same district, had gone to the reservoir for a pleasure trip. While Abhilash and his two female relatives entered the water, his wife Divya sat on the banks to record their video.

A video of the incident taken by Divya even shows the trio having a good time and splashing water at each other. However, the police said that the three of them accidentally went deep into the reservoir and began drowning. As Divya cried for help, locals rushed there but by then, Abhilash and the other two had drowned. Police, with the help of divers, later fished out the bodies.

The bodies were shifted to the Jangaon area hospital for an autopsy, following which they were handed over to the families.

Just last month, a similar accident took place in the same district after a youth, identified as 18-year-old P Nagasai, drowned in a reservoir located at Chitakoduru village. Nagasai had gone for a swim in the reservoir along with his friends but began drowning as he slipped in the water.

"While trying to take a bath, he accidentally slipped into the waters. Though two others made a vain bid to save him, he could not be saved," an eye-witness was quoted as saying at the time. The body was later fished out by the police with the help of the swimmers and sent for an autopsy.
