In a shocking turn of events, a minor boy who was being quizzed by the police in connection with the death of two minor sisters in Palakkad was also found dead on Tuesday. The 17-year-old who had been interrogated several times by the police in the Wayalar murders was found hanging from a tree near Attapallam in Walayar.

The police team investigating the death of the two minor girls had taken him to custody on April 17. They let him off later, but he was again called in for interrogation reports Manoramaonline. He was residing in the neighbourhood of the two girls.

The case pertains to the death of the two sisters, one 13-year-old and other nine-year-old, which occurred in a span of 52 days. Both the girls were found hanging from the ceiling of a shed in which their family was living.

The maternal relatives of the sisters, V Madhu of Kallankad and M Madhu alias Kutty Madhu, neighbour Pradeep Kumar and Shibu of Idukki are the accused held by the police in this case. The death of younger girl paved the way for further investigation in the death of her sister, and in the probe that followed, was found that both the girls were sexually abused.

The kids are daughters of daily wage labourers. The mother of the two girls has given a statement to the police that the elder girl was harassed several times by a relative. On March 4, the younger girl was found hanging in their home.

After three days of the death, police confirmed that the girl had been sexually abused. Her elder sister, a 14-year-old girl, was found dead under similar circumstances in January. Police later confirmed that both the kids had been sexually abused.

The investigating team in the case was reconstituted as there were lapses in probing the death of the elder sister.
