Sai Pallavi's 'Karu' gets a release date

The horror film is on the subject of abortion.

After making a smashing debut in Telugu with Fidaa, actor Sai Pallavi is eagerly awaiting the release of her first Tamil film Karu, a horror drama that’ll touch upon the issue of abortion.

The film has been directed by A.L Vijay, best known for helming Devi, Thaandavam and Vanamagan. The makers on Friday confirmed via an official poster that the film will release worldwide on February 9 next year.

In a recent interview to Deccan Chronicle, Vijay said the film will focus on the relationship between a mother and her four-year-old daughter.

“It is an intense subject and focuses on the bond between a mother and her four-year-old daughter. Sai Pallavi essays the mother. The movie touches upon the issue of abortion and I can’t reveal anything more at this point of time,” he said, adding he had been hell-bent on working with Pallavi from the beginning.

“Right from the beginning, I was very confident that Sai would be able to pull it off. I watched Premam as well as Kali. I loved her performance in both. She was very impressive in the latter. She has done a wonderful job in Karu.”

Pallavi, after impressing Telugu audiences with her own dubbing, will also dub in her own voice for Karu, which will also release in Telugu as Kanam, and also stars Naga Shourya. Apparently, Pallavi came forward to dub and Vijay feels it’ll enhance her roles multiple times.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Vijay and Prabhudheva, who had previously worked together in last year’s horror flick Devi, are set to reunite for a new project, to be bankrolled by Trident Arts. There were rumours that there’ll be a sequel to Devi, which was a sleeper hit in Tamil but sank without a trace in Hindi and Telugu. It’s not yet known whether Vijay is joining hands with Prabhudheva for the Devi sequel or if they’re working on a new project.

Pallavi's next major release is the Telugu film MCA aka Middle Class Abbayi, and the project is slated for a December 21 release. It's been a great year so far for the Premam actor who will hope to finish things on a high note. Next year, she will be seen in Dhanush's Maari 2 and it'll be their first time collaboration.
