A day after the Kochi police formed a special anti-goonda squad -City Task Force- to tackle the increasing number of ‘goonda’ activities, a case was registered against CPI(M) leader in Ernakulam on Thursday.

The sudden spurt in ‘goondaism’ across the state had come up for discussion even in the state Legislative Assembly. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had on Tuesday affirmed that a special squad was to be set up to look into such complaints.

The Kochi city police registered a case against Kalamassery area secretary Zakkir Hussain based on a complaint given to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In the complaint, Jube Paulose -a businessman based in Kochi- alleged that he was threatened by Zakkir Hussain and few others seven months ago.

A case has now been filed against the Communist leader for various offences including kidnapping, confinement and threatening.

After a Kochi-based businesswoman Sandra Thomas wrote to the CM alleging that a group of people threatened her in his name, Pinarayi Vijayan had said that stringent action will be taken against ‘goondas’. It was after Sandra registered her complaint that Jube decided to go ahead with his own, say reports

The name of Siddique -who is one of the accused in the Sandra case- also figures in the case registered against Zakkir Hussain.
