After being hounded by Sangh activists for hosting a debate on Mahishasura Jayanthi, Sindhu Sooryakumar,  Asianet News Chief Coordinating Editor, has now been verbally abused by film director Major Ravi.

Ravi said in a public event on Saturday that he would like to spit on her face, if allowed.

He said that Sindhu did not find anything wrong in calling Durga Devi a prostitute because she (Sindhu) also belonged to same category.

“It is her culture. She will not have any problem in someone calling her own mother a prostitute. If I get permission I would like to spit on her face,” he said.

Earlier, speaking to The News Minute, Sindhu had said that almost 98 per cent of the people who called her up and abused her had not actually seen the discussion on television.

She was only the moderator of a discussion on whether celebrating Mahishashura Jayanthi could be considered an act of treason, with the panel featuring Congress MP Anto Antony, CPI(M) MP MB Rajesh and Kerala BJP spokesperson VV Rajesh.

Apparently someone had spread a rumour on social media that Sindhu had found no fault with Durga being termed a sex-worker.

The alleged messages on Whatsapp and Facebook reportedly also circulated Sindhu’s mobile number and exhorted one and all to call Sindhu and shower her with the choicest abuses for her supposed act of treason.

Five BJP activists have been arrested by the police for threatening Sindhu.
