A 30-year-old woman hailing from Meghalaya has alleged that she was assaulted by three men on a Kerala-bound train on Friday.

In her complaint to the Thampanoor railway police on Sunday, the woman- who works as a domestic help in Thiruvananthapuram- recounted how three Malayali men tried to grab her while she was asleep in the AC compartment and that none of the other passengers stepped in to help her. The woman in her complaint, mentioned the seat numbers of the three men.

The woman, who has been working in Kerala for the past ten years, was returning after visiting her family back in Meghalaya. The train that started from Guwahati on Wednesday morning reached Thiruvananthapuram late on Friday night. She suspects that the three men alighted from the train at Ernakulam station.

Police say that the woman was terrified of the incident and had decided not to file a police complaint. However, she later did so, after her employer convinced her to seek legal help.

Thampanoor railway police told The News Minute that a case has been filed against the three persons under section 354 IPC.

"The woman said that she could recognize the three men by face. We have already dug out the passenger list and ascertained their identity. The accused are likely to be arrested by tonight," a police officer said.
