The Supreme Court on Monday, rejected Kerala government’s appeal against a High Court order to shut down Malaparamba UP school in Kozhikode district.

According to reports, the government had, in its plea appealed that the closure of the school would affect the future of 75 students and that it would be a violation of the right to education.

In an appeal filed on May 30, the Kerala government had sought a stay on the HC order.

Dismissing the plea, the bench headed by Justice PC Ghosh of the apex court observed that in spite of a High Court order passed in 2015, the government failed to complete the formalities and ordered for immediate implementation of HC order. The court also sought a report to be submitted by Wednesday after completing the necessary formalities.

The court held that there was enough time available to shift the students to other schools and that there were no circumstances to stay the HC order.

The HC had given time till June 8 to close down the school, but the school protection committee was against the move.
