The buzz going around in the tech circles is that Qualcomm has already started working on its successor to the Snapdragon 835 processor for smartphones. And the LG G7 might be the first device to sport this CPU when it is launched.

It has to be recalled here that the LG G6 missed out to the Samsung Galaxy S8 when it came to the Snapdragon 835 and had to be content with the 821. This was because Samsung announced an exclusive partnership with Qualcomm under which the company's flagship smartphones, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus were the first to sport chip manufacturer's most powerful processor Snapdragon 835.

It appears Samsung is also planning its next release, the Galaxy S9 in 2018, with the Snapdragon 845. This is where LG can take advantage and release its device slightly earlier than Samsung.

In terms of the improvements brought about in the next generation processor, it is reported that the new one can work faster than the 835 by around 30%. There is also the mention of the 7nm process on which the new processor will be built and can be accommodated in a smaller sized frame. The nm here refers to the nanometer technology.

The use of these next generation processors is also important for these smartphone makers since their plans for expanding the application of VR and AR features in their new devices will be dependent on them.

There is also the explanation that the fact that LG is keen to switch to the new generation can be taken as the indication that there will be a massive leap in the performance of the chip from the 821 to the 845. Complete details of the new processor, its clocking speed etc. will be known only as the developments take place and the company shares them.
