Police who have been investigating the death of a cadet at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kannur have recovered a suicide note in which he allegedly blamed some of the other cadets for physically harassing him. 

Gudeppa Sooraj, a 26-year-old cadet was found dead on Thursday, after he fell from a building on the campus.

“It was written on Sooraj’s hand that there is a note in his pocket. We found the note from his room when we were preparing inquest. In the note, it was said that he was mentally harassed by some of the other cadets. There is no accusation against the officials, but against other cadets,” Circle Inspector Payyanur police Azad told The News Minute.

“A case of abetment to suicide will be charged against them,” he added.  

The relatives had alleged foul play in his death. They had also complained that he used to tell that he was being harassed by some officers.

According to a press statement issued by the Naval Academy, Sooraj, son of Gudeppa Ramana of Tirur in Malappuram district, was found in an unconscious and unresponsive state on the floor of the Academic wing of the INA by a duty sailor instructor in the evening on Wednesday.

Sooraj was a cadet doing his first term course at Indian Naval Academy. His death happened at midnight on Thursday

"He was immediately evacuated to Intensive Care Unit of Indian Naval Hosipital Navjivani and administered IV Fluid resuscitation. He was later shifted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital along with a medical specialist and other assistants. The cadet developed cardiac arrest two times at the Hospital. All efforts to revive him by the medical specialist failed and he was declared dead at 2.30am on Thursday," the hospital statement said.
