IIM-Ahmedabad on Wednesday sent an email to Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal asking him to guarantee employment to six of their students whose recruitment was deferred while terming the compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakh offered by Flipkart as ‘unacceptable’.

In his reply, Bansal assured that all the six employees will be hired but said that the compensation cannot be increased, reported the Economic Times.

Bansal in his letter also pointed out that this was not the first time that campus placement had been deferred, as in the past also, there have been similar instances of companies withdrawing offers.

This comes after a day after it was reported that e-commerce giant Flipkart deferred the joining date of the new recruits from June to December in an apparent attempt to curb costs amidst a funding crisis.

According to ET, Asha Kaul, the placement committee chairperson in her email to CEO Binny Bansal asked the company to arrange a conference call amongst all the stakeholders and sort out the issue amicably. In addition, the letter mentioned that the compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh as a joining bonus was also ‘unacceptable’. Instead, it asked the company to pay a monthly compensation starting from June.

The ET added that the email penned by Kaul was forwarded to placement cells of several B-schools including the likes of IIM-Kolkata, IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Indore, Faculty of Management Studies and Tata Institute of Social Sciences inviting them to join the conference call.

The B-School in its email also wrote, "The decision to defer the date of joining, coming as it does so close to the earlier promised date of June 2016, is sure to make this talent pool regret their decision of joining your company. Talented students fresh out of campus, on the eve of starting successful careers, feel cheated."

"Future engagement of Flipkart with B-school campuses is bound to get affected as a relationship based on mistrust and lack of transparency can never be mutually beneficial," the email further read.
