Two men, who had allegedly stolen an Uber cab in Bengaluru to smoke marijuana, were nabbed after a filmy style police chase, with four constables on bikes speeding after them.

On January 4, 20-year-old Sheikh Shahnawaz and his accomplice, Syed Abbas, both residents of KG Halli, alighted an Uber at 11.00 am, the KG Halli Inspector said.

“The driver stopped midway to attend to nature’s call. The duo threatened the driver at gun point and sped away with the car,” KG Halli police said.

The driver, Shivanna, filed a complaint with the KG Halli Police on January 5. Four constables attached with the police station were then deployed to spot the accused.

While tracking the car’s GPS, the constables found that the duo was in Nagavara, near Yelahanka on January 6. The police went to the area immediately and approached the car. Shahnawaz then tried to attack them with the knife, while Syed hit one constable with a stick and fled the spot, the police added.

“The police, who were on bikes, chased the accused and apprehended them. Further enquiry revealed that the duo had stolen the vehicle to smoke marijuana. Shahnawaz is also a history-sheeter,” the KG Halli police said.

Two cases have been registered against the duo for theft and assaulting a police officer. The accused were produced before the magistrate and the duo has been remanded to judicial custody.
