The Bengaluru police have arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly molesting a woman on a moving bus.

Madhusudhan Rao, who works in a tech-company in Whitefield, was arrested for allegedly groping a 29-year-old woman on a BMTC Volvo bus late on Wednesday evening.

Sridevi*, a native of Bengaluru and an employee of a leading IT company in the city, was traveling back from work on a Silk Board-bound bus, when the incident happened.

According to the police, Madhusudhan, who was sitting in the seat behind her in the crowded bus, allegedly groped her.

Sridevi lodged a complaint sitting in the bus using the Bengaluru police's recently launched app. She registered a complaint with the Bellandur police station by procuring the number of the concerned police officer through the city police's recently launched mobile application called "Know Your Police Station".

The man was arrested from the bus itself by the 'Pink' hoysala, a special patrol team of the Bengaluru City Police recently launched for ensuring safety of women and children. On April 10, the Bengaluru City Police had introduced 51 Pink hoysala patrolling vehicles.

"Immediately after receiving the complaint, we sent a vehicle and intercepted the Volvo bus to arrest the accused. Following this, an FIR was registered and a case was filed against Madhusudhan under Section 354 of IPC. On Thursday, he was produced in court and sent to 14-day judicial custody," Bellandur Police Inspector Victor Simon said.

Earlier this month, a singer from Bengaluru had alleged that she was molested by an Ola cab driver. Speaking to The News Minute, the woman had said that the driver took a detour and molested her after taking the cab to an isolated spot.

“I was at a karaoke night in Koramangala. After we wrapped up, I booked an Ola and I got into the cab at around 2.15am. We were 5 km away from my house, when the driver, suddenly stopped and when I asked him why he had stopped, the driver said that he was going to take a detour. He was sitting still for a moment or two and then suddenly turned back and grabbed my breast. I tried to push him away but he continued molesting me. I started screaming and I did it really loudly but no one was coming to help me. I then knew that there was no one else to help me and I had to fend for myself. I was panicking but I managed to push him and jump out of the car,” Arati* had said.

Four days after she filed a complaint at the Bommanahalli police station, police arrested the accused.
