The Charavaka Social and Cultural Trust has run into trouble for serving beef at a 3-day seminar held at Mane Angala auditorium inside Kalamandira in Mysuru on Sunday.

According to reports, the organisers had served breakfast and lunch at the event, which had chicken and beef dishes. The seminar was organised on the topic: ‘Food Culture and Freedom of Individual'. BJP Yuva Morcha activists on Monday took objection to serving beef at the event and conducted a purification ceremony outside the Kalamandira.

Condemning the matter, right-wing activists sprinkled cow urine using mango leaves, reports The New Indian Express

BJP Yuva Morcha president Sampath Kumar told The Times of India: “We condemn beef eating at Mane Angala auditorium. The venue is used to promote culture but on Sunday, an event organizer had spoiled its sanctity by serving beef to participants."

Food, not beef, violated rules

Even as right-wing groups have taken objection to beef being served at the seminar, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep maintained that the event organisers had violated the rules by serving food.

He told The Hindu: “The issue is not whether they ate beef or not, the issue is that food was served inside the venue, flouting the standard rules. Even if food had to be served, only vegetarian food was allowed to be served outside Kalamandir."

Kannada and Culture Department issued a show-cause notice to the organisers and will take action based on their reply. Reports say that the organisers will be banned from conducting events at Kalamandira in the future.
