Activist Trupti Desai, who led a successful campaign for women’s entry into the Shani Shingapur temple now plans to have a meeting with Travancore Devasom Board officials in May to discuss women’s entry into Sabarimala.

Trupti told media that she is ready to begin an agitation if the temple authorities failed to decide within two weeks.

“After we enter the Haji Ali dargah on April 28, we plan to come and meet the Sabarimala trustees in May and request entry for all women in the temple,“ she said, The Times of India reports.

Desai had spearheaded an agitation seeking to allow women's entry into Ahmednagar's Shani Shingnapur temple.

“Some women from Kerala contacted me and said that such wrong traditions that restrict women needs to be ended. Women need to be respected, especially in God's home,“ she said.

Criticising the authorities Desai said that their reason for restrictions is not justifiable.

“No one is biologically correct or incorrect. However, breaking tradition is never easy. But we are determined to ensure that women get to live with dignity ,“ said Desai.
