The ministers handed over a cheque of Rs. 25 lakh from the relief fund of the state to Shibin’s kin.Nineteen year old Shibin was allegedly hacked by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) workers on January 22 at Thooneri after a fight between the IUML and CPM activists. Though Shibin was taken to the Kozhikode Medical College, his life couldn’t be saved. Apart from him, five other people were also injured in the attack. Ismail, an IUML activist serving jail term under Goonda Act, was named as the first accused in the case. But following the incident the League clarified that he had been expelled from the party. As of last week, the police arrested around 13 people in connection with Shibin’s murder. Shibin's murder had angered many throughout the state, and the feeling was evident especially in the social media.
