A 24-year-old woman who worked as cabin crew member for Air India Express was found dead in her apartment in Karipur, Kozhikode on Saturday.

Monisha Mohan hails from Peroorkada in Thiruvananthapuram and had been staying in Karipur for a year has been identified as the deceased. Her death came to light on when her colleague, Sijil, found her hanging from the fan inside her room on Saturday night.

Sijil returned from work around 8.30pm on Saturday. Half an hour later, he received a call from Monisha’s mother saying that she had not been able to reach Monisha as her phone was switched off, Sijil told TNM.

Sijil said that he went to Monisha’s two bedroom apartment, which she shares with another colleague, around 11pm. “Monisha’s flatmate was in her room and assumed that Monisha was asleep. But when our knocks on her door received no response, we had to break it down,” narrated Sijil.

It was then that Sijil and Monisha’s flatmate saw that she was hanging from the ceiling fan.

Incidentally, Monisha had called in sick from work on March 1 and had not reported back for work since. Sijil said that he is unaware if Monisha was facing any personal issues.

The Karipur police have registered a case of unnatural death, Karipur sub-inspector A Sajith told TNM.

Monisha’s parents and brother have been informed arrived in Karipur from Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

Monisha’s body was sent to Government Medical College, Kozhikode, for post-mortem, which is due to happen today.

“We can only ascertain if there was foul play after the post-mortem reports come in,” Sajith said.
