A teenager from Udupi tried to imitate a suicide by hanging himself for the purpose of clicking a photograph. The attempt proved nearly fatal for the boy as he did not anticipate the danger he was calling upon himself with this gimmick.
According to a report on The Times of India, 15-year-old Vikas* who lives in Hebri in Udupi district, attempted to click a "suicide photo" on Wednesday.
Damodar Nayak, a friend of the boy who happened to reach the spot in time to save the boy, told TOI that Vikas was trying to imitate a photograph he received on Whatsapp.
"Vikas received an image on WhatsApp of a friend attempting suicide. He too wanted to try it and share it on social media. He called a boy who stayed near his house to click his picture when he “hanged” himself," Damodar was quoted as saying.
Vikas had everything planned - he went to a cowshed near their house along with a friend around 1pm on Wednesday. After climbing on to a chair, Vikas tied a rope to the beam and proceeded to tighten the noose around his neck. However, the chair fell off accidentally, thereby tightening the noose around his neck.
As Vikas began to struggle in pain, his companion sensed trouble and rushed out of the cowshed. People residing near the cowshed rushed to Adarsh's help on hearing his cries and took him to a hospital nearby. As the boy's condition was critical, he was reportedly shifted to Manipal Hospital after receiving primary treatment.
