The Hebbal police in Bengaluru have arrested a man for using a fake social media account to wreck the marriage of a woman.

Tushar Kaushik reports for The New Indian Express that Praveen T created a fake Facebook profile under the name of Neha and sent messages to a woman and her fiancé with the intention of breaking off their engagement.

According to a police complaint filed by the woman with the Hebbal police, Praveen was her classmate during engineering and the duo met in 2014. Though Praveen had proposed to her for marriage, both the families did not give their consent, for the two belonged to two different castes.

After the woman refused to continue the relationship without the consent of her family, Praveen repeatedly called her, states the report. In February 2016, the duo stopped talking to each other.

Things took a bad turn when the woman got engaged to a software engineer settled in the US in December 2016. On coming to know of the engagement through Facebook, Praveen reportedly created a fake FB account and began to send messages to the woman and her fiancé. Praveen told the woman's fiancé that she was in a relationship with another man.

The woman grew suspicious of Praveen's hand in it, after he recently told her that she deserved what had happened to her. Police took him into custody, after he confessed to the crime.
