A 38-year-old man who was undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation centre in Bengaluru was allegedly beaten to death by the staffer of the centre.

The Hindu reports that Faheem Shariff, who was battling alcoholism, was reportedly tied up and beaten to death on Tuesday night.

According to the report, Faheem's family had got him admitted to the centre attached to Ashrafia Masjid in HBR Layour on Saturday. On Tuesday, when his brother Waseem called the centre to speak to Faheem, his phone calls were reportedly not attended to.

However, around 8pm, one of the staffers attended Waseem's call and informed him that Faheem had fainted at the centre and that the staff were taking him to a hospital. Upon knowing this, Waseem rushed to the centre and took Faheem to a hospital, where he was pronounced brought dead, say reports.

According to Deccan Chronicle, throughout this, the staffers reportedly told the family that Faheem had died a natural death. However, before Faheem's body could be buried, the body was taken away to for giving a bath and the family noticed that there were injury marks on Faheem's head and body.

His family then rushed to the rehabiliation centre and confronted the staffers, who confessed that they had tied him up and beat him using PVC pipes and rods, when he turned violent.

The family lodged a complaint at the Hennur police station and the police. Khalid, a staffer at the centre who reportedly beat Faheem to death, and a few others, are absconding.
