Coming from a livestock dependent tribe called the "Rabaris",  he is addressed as 'Bhopaji" or priest and as he likes to address himself, the country's first "Gaupalan Mantri"According to a report in the Economic Times, Devasi even dresses up like a cow-herder himself and with a lathi in tow, he walks everywhere - even into the chief minister's office in Rajasthan.The BJP and Vasundhara Raje had promised a separate ministry for cows in its poll manifesto and fulfilled their promise in October, 2014, when Devasi was made minister of Dairy and Devasthan with the extra charge of the "Gaupalan department".Devasi, who owns more than 20 cows himself, says he is proud of his achievements for securing the future of cows in the state and believes that other states could also follow this 'Rajasthan Model.The report also adds that he has sought an appointment with PM Narendra Modi after the Union budget to impress upon him, the urgent need to set up a cow ministry at the Centre to protect the animals which have a "spiritual importance".TweetFollow @thenewsminute
