Be it the media or the aam aadmi, we are perennially infatuated with what film stars, politicians and cricketers do. And when these three ingredients add up, it forms the perfect masala for the Indian diet, the taste of which remains unforgotten for decades. Here are the top five controversies that we will always be carry forwarded like a legacy:1) The Amitabh-Rekha eternal love affair Even today in some corner of the country, somebody is either secretly gossiping or reading up about Bollywood’s famed love affair between these once leading figures of the industry. Every award function is inconclusive without the camera capturing reactions of Amitabh-Jaya and Rekha when either party gets attention. What is exceptional in this controversy is that the reel-life characters were enacting real life situations in the movie Silsila.2) Salman ki shaadi kab hogi? They say birthdays are incomplete without making a wish, but apparently, this is not the norm in the case of Salman Khan. Every birthday, a reporter must religiously ask, “Salman bhai, when will you get married?” It has become sort of a tradition and seems like no one will risk breaking the custom or must face the public’s ire. The nation wants to know, you see.3) The mysterious death of Netaji Subhash Chandra BoseThe entire country, till date, wonders how exactly this freedom fighter lost his life. The official story is that he died in a plane crash near Japan. The plane along with his body was supposed to have crashed into the ocean. A committee set up by the government to investigate his death, reported that his body was found and cremated and his ashes kept in Japan itself. But many did not believe this story. Another subsequent committee reported that Netaji went to Soviet Russia but were stalled in their investigation by the government itself. Even today, the mystery of Netaji’s death remains unsolved and looks like we will never get over it.4) The assassination of Rajiv GandhiThe shocking murder of India’s favourite Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, still remains a sensitive topic for most people. The Prime Minister was killed in a bomb blast while in Tamil Nadu campaigning for then general elections. Believed to have been killed by the LTTE, the assassination was a huge blow for the country. Two separate commissions were later set up to investigate the assassination as different conspiracies started cropping up. The accused are now facing death sentences.5) Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod KambliWho can forget this dynamite duo who captured every Indian’s heart when they scored a record 664 runs for Sharadashram Vidyamandir. They were what cricket was all about in the 90s, with Sachin entering the national team and Kambli following him later. However, as Sachin rose from height to height, Kambli was left behind and eventually retired due to an injury. The friendship seemed to have broken and was confirmed at Sachin’s last match. Kambli confirmed that he had not been invited to his friend’s retirement party nor was he mentioned in his last speech.
