The News Minute | February 23, 2015 | 06:49 pm IST Tasmania-based artist Sonia Singh is giving dolls, usually the discarded ones, a new 'lease of life'. Called the Tree Change Dolls, Singh's project, which she has said, started just like a 'fun hobby' has now gone viral with people not just complimenting her work, but also sending in requests to purchase her creations. Singh, who is also a mother of a two-year-old, on Tumblr writes, 'These dolls have been rescued and rehabilitated from op-shops and tip shops around Tasmania. These lil fashion dolls have opted for a "tree change", swapping high-maintenance glitz 'n' glamour for down-to-earth style. I hand repaint the dolls faces, mold new shoes, and my Mum sews and knits their clothing'. The once glitzy dolls with heavy make-up are given a natural and down-to-earth look- the artist removes their make-up, along with their eyes, using nail paint remover and eucalyptus oil. She then draws their eyebrows and eyes back, which look nothing like their previous sexualised selves. (Image source: Tree Change Dolls Facebook Page)"My sisters and I grew up playing with second-hand dolls and home-made toys in the beautiful Tasmanian natural environment. I love the satisfaction of repairing and reusing discarded items to give them a new lease on life", she writes. (The artist with one of her creations; Image source: Tree Change Dolls Facebook Page)In a series of before and after photographs, which Singh uploaded on her Facebook page, the dolls are seen undergoing a complete transformation, from everything including make-up and clothes. (Image source: Tree Change Dolls Facebook Page)(Image source: Tree Change Dolls Facebook Page)(Image source: Tree Change Dolls Facebook Page)Watch how Sonia Singh gives these dolls a 'make-under'. TweetFollow @thenewsminute
