While the Indian mobile phone market is just celebrating the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 4, the company is already busy with the phone’s successor, the Redmi 5. Of course, what has emerged is only a set of leaked specs and images, but they are sufficient to construct the upcoming model’s features.

Weibo is the website that appears to specialize in coming up with these leaks much before the others and accordingly, this time also, this site has published images and details of specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi 5. Even the price indications have emerged. The expectation is that the phone will be released in many variants as and when introduced into the market.

These variants will first be based on the CPU used. One will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 version while the other will have the Snapdragon 630 version.

The corresponding GPUs will be the Adreno 506 and 508 respectively. Within these, the former will have only 3GB RAM phones while the latter will have one variant with 3GB RAM and the two more with 4GB RAM.

The further variations will all be linked to the internal storage, which will start from 16GB and go up to 64GB. The prices will also vary accordingly. A microSD card can take the storage to 128GB.

The rest of the hardware and software features may run commonly through the different models of the Redmi 5. These include the display, which will be a 5-inch full HD (IPS LCD) display, offering screen resolution of 1080x1920p and a pixel density of 441ppi.

The display screen receives protection from a Corning Gorilla Glass, though the version does not seem to be clear.

All the Xiaomi Redmi 5 versions will run on the Android Nougat version 7.1.1 and the battery fitted will be 3680mAh, non-removable, Li-Ion type.

The imaging department will be handled by a 16MP rear camera with the LED flash and autofocus and a 5MP front camera. A rear mounted fingerprint sensor just about completes the specification sheet.

Now on to the prices being predicted for the different variants of Xiaomi Redmi 5:

For the phones fitted with the Snapdragon 625

3 GB RAM/16GB ROM: 859 yuan (Rs 8160)

3 GB RAM/32 GB ROM: 1039 yuan (Rs 9875)

For the higher end handsets with the Snapdragon 630

3 GB RAM/32GB ROM: 1099 yuan (Rs 10,445)

4 GB RAM/32 GB ROM: 1199 yuan (Rs 11,395)

4 GB RAM/64 GB ROM” 1299 yuan (Rs 12,345)

With regard to the release date for the Xiaomi Redmi 5, it is likely to be the last quarter of 2017 or latest by early 2018.

There are many Indian buyers for the Redmi smartphones and hopefully Xiaomi will consider expediting the launch of the new phones after releasing them in their home country and in other international markets.
