Even as Bhadra the puppy is thrown off a building terrace by apparently remorseless medical students, the Grandview shopping centre in Guangzhou, China has encaged a polar bear for shoppers and visitors to take selfies with it.

This heartbreaking video shows the bear lying comatose inside its glass cage, with only its mouth moving.

The mighty beast has been put inside a glass enclosure, with people free to gawk at it, click pictures and to also constantly subject it to banging and tapping on the glass screen. This Vine shows what it is made to undergo every day.

This report reveals that apart from the bear, the mall also has white wolves, beluga whales, sea walruses, and Arctic foxes among other animals. As the pictures reveal, all of their enclosures appear small, bare and cramped with the animals themselves visibly jaded.

Animals rights activists are quite upset with the arrangement and are urging the Chinese authorities for the displays to be shut down and for the Chinese public to boycott it.

Speaking about the polar bear, Animals Asia Animal Welfare Director Dave Neale said told the Mirror.uk -

"This bear has no peace and nothing natural to take comfort in. What’s more, information on how best to try to meet the complex physical and behavioural needs of captive polar bears is freely available and yet this animal has been willfully incarcerated in this way."

"The bear suffers for what? For selfies? For shopping?" he challenged.
