BJP MLC Somu Veerraju hit out against the Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday and asked people to question the TDP's ‘neglect of the development of the Rayalaseema region’.

Addressing media persons in Kadapa, Veerraju said that the drought-prone region had remained backward as successive government did not give it importance. It was the responsibility of the State government to develop Rayalaseema and North Coastal Andhra, on an equal footing, he said.

According to reports, Veerraju also demanded that the state should release a white paper on the funds being spent, related to ongoing developmental projects in Andhra.

“BJP-led NDA government is keen on development of Andhra Pradesh in all fronts but there should be a proper procedure in releasing the funds,” he was quoted as saying.

Though the BJP and TDP area allies in the state and Centre, with the latter being part of the NDA alliance, there is a growing rift between the two parties in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier this week, Somu Veerraju crossed swords with TDP MLC YB Rajendra Prasad.

The skirmishes began after the recent results of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh polls. Following BJP's victory, Veerraju held a press conference, and told reporters that the party would win a majority of the seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the 2019 elections. He also claimed that the TDP won in 2014, because of the BJP's support.

This comment irked Rajendra Prasad, who said that Veeraraju would not even win as a councillor, if it was not for the TDP.

Veerraju upped the ante on the next day, stating that the BJP was not dependent on the TDP and was even ready to contest alone, if the situation demanded it. He claimed that the party also had a Chief Ministerial candidate.

The entire spat even came to the notice of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

According to reports, Naidu immediately warned TDP leaders not to make any negative comments on the BJP without the party's approval.
