Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has raked a controversy by making a violent threat against those who dare to challenge the TMC administration. Abhishek, who is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was addressing a party event in North 24 Parganas when he reportedly said that whoever challenged the TMC would have their eyes gouged out and their hands chopped off.An IBN report quotes the president of TMC's youth wing as saying, "In the heart of Delhi, in Parliament and through various protests, Mamata Banerjee and the TMC have proved that if the interests of the people of Bengal are hurt, we will not leave the matter. As long as Mamata is there, if anyone dares to glare at us, we will gouge their eyes out and throw them on the road, if they raise their hands, we'll cut their arms off." Both the BJP and Congress have condemned his statement and have urged for action to be taken agaisnt him. "I think Abhishek Banerjee has been making such highly provoking speeches earlier also. There should be a case registered against him. He should not indulge in any such speeches being a Member of Parliament. Threatening the people to vote for Mamata shows that she does not have believe on the work she has done and that the BJP has emerged has a competition to TMC," a Times of India report quotes BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao as saying.Watch the video here. In September 2014, students of Jadavpur University were protesting demanding a fresh panel to probe allegations of sexual harassment of a female student inside the campus. Banerjee had then in a Facebook post said, "Is this protest due to the banning of drugs, liquor and charas?”
