It was a star-studded wedding in Kerala. From Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to opposition leader VS Achutanandan and cabinet members, just about every important politician in Kerala was at the wedding. No wonder then that TV channels had at least two-hour non-stop coverage of the Youth Affairs Minister PK Jayalekshmi wedding with her childhood friend Anil Kumar on Sunday. The marriage took place at her home village Manathavady in Waynad district, 556km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram. Both Jayalekshmi and Kumar belong to the Kurichiya tribe.Political reporters who are well-versed with covering political events struggled to provide continuous commentary about the bride, groom and what was happening. One reporter even said the groom has reached the "conference".The marriage of Kerala's only woman minister was interesting that usual as the political inclinations of the bride and groom are different, as Anil Kumar and his family are said to be Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters, whereas Jayalekshmi is a Congress leader. Jayalekshmi, 33, also holds the charge of the ministry of welfare of the Scheduled Tribes in the Oommen Chandy-led Kerala government. Jayalekshmi, who won the elections on her debut in 2011, is the only woman minister in the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) in the state. More than 6,000 people were present in the marriage.
