Sofia Ashraf of the Kodaikanal rap fame is back again and this time, she’s rapping to demand justice for the Bhopal gas tragedy.

In a video titled ‘DOW Vs. Bhopal | A Toxic Rap Battle’, Sofia uses her quirky and in your face style to ask difficult questions, all set to the thumping, catchy tune.

Using the popular culture approach to an otherwise serious topic, the video breaks down the issue and makes it accessible. A striking aspect of the video is the noose around the character representing Bhopal’s people. The other end is held by the character representing DOW Chemicals, the company which bought Union Carbide. The noose perhaps symbolizes that despite the time that has passed, the life of the victims of the tragedy continues to be crippled until justice is served.

Through her video, Sofia challenges the US Department of Justice to finally pick one side - the people of Bhopal who were grossly wronged or DOW Chemicals which continues to evade Indian summons.

Watch the video here.

'Toxic Rap Battle' finally makes a plea to sign the petition demanding that the US Department of Justice look meet its obligations as per the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty and compel DOW to answer the summons by the Bhopal court. You can sign the petition here.

Previously, Sofia had starred in a video against the repercussions of the mercury plant in Kodaikanal. The video was titled ‘Kodaikanal Won’t’ and was set to the tune of Nicki Minaj’s hit song ‘Anaconda’.
