The wait is over and Petta is the name of Rajinikanth’s next with Karthik Subbaraj. The makers on Friday released the title and motion poster of the film to high expectations.

The motion poster has Rajinikanth entering a church holding a candelabra with lit candles amidst flying papers and broken pews. Rajinikanth is seen wearing shades and a scarf, sporting a much shorter beard.

Ever since young director Karthik Subbaraj announced that he’ll be collaborating with Rajinikanth in his next, all eyes have been on the project.

The film’s cast has been revealed one after the other and includes big names from the industry. Actors Bobby Simha, Vijay Sethupathi, Simran, Trisha and Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who will be making his Tamil debut, are part of the cast.

It was also announced that Anirudh Ravichander will be composing for this film, marking his first-time collaboration with Rajinikanth.

Produced by Sun Pictures, the filming began in June this year. On teaming up with the Superstar, Subbaraj said in a chat with Sun TV recently: “Even though I’ve made four films in my career so far, my fascination for films grew because of Superstar Rajinikanth sir. To direct him is the best moment of my life.” Subbaraj added that he hoped to complete filming by the end of this year.

Rajinikanth is also awaiting the release of his 2.0 helmed by director Shankar. The film has Akshay Kumar playing the antagonist and this will be his Kollywood debut. With Amy Jackson playing his pair, this film is the sequel to the 2010 hit film, Enthiran. Others in the cast include Sudhanshu Pandey, Adil Hussain and Kalabhavan Shajohn.

Karthik Subbaraj's recent film Mercury was a silent thriller. Mercury starred Prabhu Deva in the lead. His debut film Pizza in 2012 with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead was a major success.
