The makers of Vijay Sethupathi’s Kadaisi Vivasayi released the trailer of the film on Thursday evening. Directed by M Manikandan of Kakka Muttai fame, the movie has an 85-year-old farmer, Nallandi, playing the protagonist. Manikandan is also the producer, cinematographer and script-writer of the film.

The two-minute long trailer of the film shows the life of a farmer in a rustic village in Tamil Nadu. The 85-year-old man doesn’t know anything beyond his farms – he mistakes a policeman in uniform for an electricity board staff, and even asks the judge while he is tried for murder if he can go back and tend to his farms in between the hearings.

Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of an eccentric man while Yogi Babu is seen in a comical role as an elephant mahout. It appears that the film tells the story of the last surviving farmer in a village. With Manikandan’s film, we hope Tamil cinema finally gets its film on a farmer that isn’t plagued with the hero giving sermons on the importance of organic farming, or pretentious businessmen usurping lands for their vested interest.

Having worked together in Aaandavan Kattalai, Manikandan felt Sethupathi’s presence will add a lot of weight to the film.

In an earlier interview to in.com, Manikandan had revealed that Vijay Sethupathi is in a supporting role in the film.

“Vijay Sethupathi plays Ramaiah, a Lord Murugan devotee. His role demanded a lot of physical work, like climbing hills. If he was playing a hero, I would have told him to do this without hesitation. But I felt bad to tell him to do all this when he is only playing a supporting character. But, Sethupathi being who he is, he did all that which was essential for the character,” Manikandan said.
