The makers of Mallesham, a biopic on the weaver-turned-engineer from Telangana, released the trailer of the movie on May 29. Actor Priyadarshi, who is playing the titular character in the movie, looks promising in the role of the Padmashree winner who won laurels after he invented the Asu machine, which is used in weaving. It seems like Priyadrashi has finally found his launchpad, shedding away the image of ‘Kaushik’, the hero’s sidekick in every movie.
The movie traces the journey of Mallesham, a sixth grade drop-out who becomes an engineer and inventor after seeing his mother toiling to weave the traditional Pochampally sarees.
The trailer begins with a group of school boys describing a scene from a Chiranjeevi movie and then cuts to a young Mallesham who is hopelessly in love with a woman named Padma, who later becomes his wife. In between the romantic sequences, the viewer is slowly introduced to Mallesham’s family, who are weavers. Trouble brews when Mallesham discovers that his mother’s health is failing due to constant toil at the spinning yarns. Mallesham is then determined to decrease the burden on his mother’s shoulders and the movie traces the hurdles he faced and his grit in inventing the Lakshmi Asu machine which reduced the time taken to weaving a saree to an hour and half.
