The political atmosphere in Kerala has witnessed a drastic change ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Rahul Gandhi contesting from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
In this week’s JanaVidhi 2019, TNM’s weekly election discussion show hosted from the state of Kerala, veteran journalist and editor-in-chief of Asianet News MG Radhakrishnan and G Pramod Kumar, a journalist turned political commentator discuss the impact that the candidature has on the political climate in Kerala with senior journalist Priya Raveendran.
MG Radhakrishnan feels that the UDF’s opportunity and their confidence has definitely increased with the arrival of Rahul Gandhi. “As far as Kerala’s Lok Sabha election history is concerned, it has always favoured the UDF. Out of the 16 Lok Sabha elections held so far, the LDF got an upper hand in only four of them,” observed Radhakrishnan.
Meanwhile, both Radhakrishnan and G Pramod Kumar feel that Rahul’s arrival has created excitement among minorities in the state. “Minority communities know that Rahul Gandhi is the main opposition of the BJP and him standing in Kerala, which has a good population of minorities in the country does boost his chances,” says Pramod Kumar.
