A biker in Hyderabad fell into a pit dug up right opposite the Telangana Secretariat as part of ongoing work by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

The incident occurred on Thursday but came to light on Saturday after a video began circulating on social media.

The video shows a large crowd gathered around the pit, as the camera turns around and shows the Secretariat. The video also shows a black bike lying near the seemingly deep pit, into which the rider fell.

A few people are seen trying to rescue him, as a ladder is passed on from the crowd, and sent into the hole.

The video ends with a visibly shaken and muddied man coming out of the hole. He was wearing a helmet, and escaped with minor injuries.

Speaking to TNM, the Traffic Inspector from Saifabad said, "The incident occurred at around 6 pm on February 8. There was ongoing work by the HMWSSB, which the biker failed to notice, and fell in.”

"There was only one person on the bike, and he was rescued. He escaped without any major injuries, as there was also a mesh-like structure on top of the hole," he added.

In September 2016, a video of a sinkhole appearing on the city’s prominent NTR Marg caused a furore among the city’s social media users.

NTR Marg, connecting IMAX Circle to the Secretariat is one of the more prominent roads in the city.

The video showed a hole, at least a foot wide, formed in the middle of the NTR Marg due to damage to a sewage line running under the road.  A shot within the hole also showed a river of water flowing a few feet below the surface.
