VS Achuthanandan disappoints Kerala media, for now

In spite of questions and counter questions, Achuthanandan was not ready to betray a single sign of dissatisfaction.

From the time the LDF secured a manadate in the Kerala assembly polls, the Kerala media has been rife with specuations over who will become the Chief Minister, 92-year-old VS Achuthanandan or 72-year-old Pinarayi Vijayan.

On Friday, as the CPI(M) took the decision that Pinarayi Vijayan would indeed become the CM, channels went berserk speculating if Achuthanandan would stage a dramatic walkout . That did not happen.

On Saturday, there was hope again of drama, as Pinarayi visited Achuthanandan. But, contrary to ‘breaking sources’ there were no fireworks after the meeting. Then came Achuthanandan's press meet and everyone waited with bated breath. But the temperamental Achuthanandan disappointed the media sorely by welcoming the verdict and saying that he will propagate the left ideology.

In spite of questions and counter questions, Achuthanandan was not ready to betray a single sign of dissatisfaction. As the press meet came to a close, some political reporters went live on their channels and said that Achuthanandan told the media he would discuss things later, so perhaps the fireworks will come then.

When Pinarayi Vijayan visted him on Saturday morning, Achuthanandan is understood to have told him that immediate efforts should be made to curtail the price rise of essential commodities and the new government should initiate steps for safety of women in the wake of the brutal murder of a Dalit law student in Perumbavoor.

For now, the Kerala media has been left disappointed as the two veterans have not taken on each other, but there is some hope as Achuthanandan did not congratulate Pinarayi Vijayan during his press meet. So may be, the fight will resume after some days (we did not come up with that).
