The official pooja of Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja, starring Vishal and Karthi, happened a few weeks ago amidst a lot of fanfare. The groundwork for the project had begun with its director Prabhu Deva and music composer Harris Jayaraj camping in London for the song compositions. While the shooting did commence and was on for a few days, we hear from sources in the tinsel town that it has come to a grinding halt. Though the reasons for it have not been revealed, it is said that the chances of having it revived is very less at least in the near future. However, there is no official word about it till now. It has been reported that the director had plans to complete the shooting in one single schedule but shooting has been called off which has raised this speculation.
Written by K Subash, the film is directed by Prabhu Deva. The star cast includes Sayyesha Saigal as the female lead with Arya appearing in a guest role. Bankrolling Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja is Isari Ganesh and Prabhu Deva under the banner Prabhu Deva Studios. Sameer Reddy has been roped in to crank the camera for this venture.
Expectations on this film are very high as it is a multi-hero subject that has Vishal and Karthi sharing the screen space for the first time in their careers. While Vishal had collaborated with Prabhu Deva in Vedi, which was produced by the latter’s banner, this is the first time Karthi and Prabhu Deva are teaming up.
It may be noted that the producers of Karuppu Raja Vellai Raja had announced that they would donate Rs. 10 crore out of the profits of the film towards the construction of the South Indian Film Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam) building.
