Putting all speculation to rest, the Andhra Pradesh police on Monday said that the death of the 29-year-old Moturu Lavanya on a city road in Visakhapatnam on May 22 was accidental and not a foul play.

City police commissioner T Yoganand said they had arrested Dadi Hema Kumar, resident of Anakapalle, and B Hemanth.

The incident had taken place near Salapuvanipalem in Parawada area in the city on May 22.

A speeding car driven by Dadi Hema Kumar hit Moturu Lavanya, Divya and Mohan Kumar when they were returning to Vadlapudi near Gajuawaka on a motorcycle after visiting Nukalamma temple at Anakapalle.

Kumar was allegedly drunk at the time. Hemanth was with him in the car. Lavanya died on the spot.

Divya, Lavanya's sister, who was injured along with Mohankumar, alleged that it was a murder as Dadi Hema Kumar and his friends had passed objectionable comments about Lavanya at the temple, and as she responded sharply, they chased the bike and hit it intentionally to take revenge.

Commissioner Yoganand said that no motive for murder was established, and CCTV footage at the temple did not suggest that such eve-teasing had happened.
