It has already been announced that Ajith, last seen on screen in Siva’s Viswasam, will next be seen in the Tamil remake of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu starrer Pink. The project, which marks the foray of producer Boney Kapoor into Tamil film industry, was officially launched in Chennai in December 2018 and the team is currently shooting in Hyderabad. On Monday, Boney Kapoor revealed via a statement that Vidya Balan will be making her Tamil debut with this project and that she has been paired opposite Ajith. He also revealed that Shraddha Srinath, most popular for her work in the Kannada thriller U-Turn, has been roped in for a pivotal role. Shraddha tweeted on Monday that she would reprise Taapsee’s role from the original.

Directed by H Vinoth of Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru fame, the film will feature actors Rangaraj Pandey, Adhik Ravichandran, Arjun Chidambaram, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang, Aswin Rao and Sujith Shankar among others. The statement also added that the project, as per original plan, is gearing up for release on May 1, 2019. While Yuvan Shankar Raja has been signed to compose music, Nirav Shah will crank the camera.

Boney Kapoor had earlier said in a statement: "While working with Ajith in English Vinglish, (late actor and Boney's wife) Sridevi had expressed her desire that Ajith does a Tamil film for our home production. Nothing exciting came up till one day last year, Ajith suggested remaking Pink in Tamil.  She immediately agreed as she thought it was the most appropriate and timely film to make and Ajith would bring all the elements required to make it into a great Tamil film.”

On his decision to produce a Tamil film, Kapoor said: "Tamil industry has always been special for me. In fact, it’s been a long journey involving Ajith to collaborate for a film, which he took up as a (matter of) sheer commitment from the time he shared screen space with my wife in English Vinglish. Accordingly, what we both earnestly searched for was suitable content that will add a special mileage to our respective works. We are now delighted to have joined hands for Pink."
