As per the latest update, veteran Sangh Parivar leader PP Mukundan formally joined the party at its state committee office in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

With the assembly elections nearing, it was earlier reported that PP Mukundan could return to BJP on Monday.

Mukundan, an RSS nominee, was once BJP’s organising secretary for Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He has been away from RSS- BJP for the last nine years following some ideological clashes with the party leadership.

Earlier when V Muraleedharan was the Kerala BJP chief, the leadership was not too enthused about the return of Mukundan.

Last October, when asked about Mukundan returning to active politics, Muraleetharan retorted that anyone can join BJP through a missed call.

However, when Kummanam Rajasekharan became the BJP state chief, and now the return of Mukundan has once again gained momentum. Kummanam told media on Sunday that PP Mukundan would be back to the party soon.

“He will play an active role in the party. His designation and other things are to be decided by the party, accordingly,” he said according to The Times of India.

Mukundan may be sworn in as NDA convenor for the state, but Kummanam did not announce it because of the strong opposition from other leaders like Muraleedharan.

“The position of NDA convenor would fit well for a veteran leader like P P Mukundan. He has all the necessary experience and wisdom to keep all the allies united and even scout for new ones. His closeness with the NSS leadership and tactical understanding with most socio-political organizations and leaders may also come handy to him if placed in that post,“ said BJP sources, ToI reports.
