The News Minute | February 17, 2015 | 12.40 pm ISTA couple in Karnataka were forbidden from being together in life, but their parents have decided to honour them by laying them together side by side in death.Jugani Rajappa (28) and Chigari Shilpa (22) of Hyarada village in Bellary district were in love and wanted to get married. However, despite both of them belonging to the Valmiki community, both sets of parents were strongly opposed to the marriage. Harehadagali sub-inspector Govindraj told The News Minute that the couple were in love for around five years and that their families were opposed to the relationship because of some old dispute. Shilpa was even engaged to another man, and Rajappa's parents too were looking for a match for him.Govindraj said that they couple went to the fields on February 13 and consumed poison. Rajappa then called his family and said that they consumed poison. His family and villagers rushed to the spot and took them to the local hospital, where first aid was administered. However, as they do no more, they had the couple shifted to a hospital in Haveri district. The same story was repeated in Davangere, and finally the couple’s families took them to a hospital in Manipal, Govindraj said.On February 15, Shilpa died first, and soon after Rajappa too breathed his last. Sources in Bellary say that the parents of the couple have decided to perform the last rites for Shilpa and Rajappa together and lay them to rest.Read: 8 lives, 4 special love stories in BengaluruTweet
