Uber’s food delivery arm Uber Eats has launched a comprehensive insurance programme for its delivery partners in India in partnership with Tata AIG.

The insurance program insures Uber Eats delivery partners for up to Rs 5 lakh against accidental death and permanent disability when they are on the road providing delivery services through the Uber Eats App. The policy also provides cover of Rs 2 lakh against medical hospitalisation expenses and an outpatient cover of Rs 50,000.

Delivery partners are covered right from their first order on the Uber Eats App. This insurance cover will be offered free of cost to delivery partners.

“This insurance program is a big milestone for us at Uber Eats, and we’re excited to be launching this so early in our journey in India. Our goal is to be the preferred choice for anyone pursuing the opportunity of becoming a delivery partner with Uber Eats. At Uber Eats, we believe that delivery partners are the centre of our business. We have an important role to play in empowering people with access to quality economic opportunities and are excited to have developed a unique insurance offering in partnership with Tata AIG for the growing community of delivery partners in India. With added peace of mind at no additional cost, we want to ensure that delivering through Uber Eats is a rewarding experience for all delivery partners across the country,” Deepak Reddy, Head of Central Operations Uber Eats India said in a statement.

The insurance cover under this program went live on September 10, 2018 across all Uber Eats cities in India.

“Our expertise in risk understanding and knowledge of various industries has helped us build insurance solutions that are relevant to diverse consumer needs. Today’s new age business ecosystems provide an opportunity for us to develop innovative product constructs that delivers value to the end consumer. We believe that this product will surely add to ‘building a rewarding experience’ ethos for Uber Eats and their delivery partners,” said Parag Ved - Executive Vice President & Head - Consumer Lines, Tata AIG.

Uber Eats launched its operations in India in Mumbai in May 2017 and is currently present in 29 cities in India.
