There was something to laugh about this Sunday morning, and all day.Two of India’s best known national newspapers – who have had a history of taking pot shots at each other – were pitted against one another in a rather inexplicable way. Somebody placed an advertisement in Mumbai Mirror after the fashion of Harrish Iyer’s mother, for a groom who reads The Hindu. Mumbai Mirror is owned by the Times Group, which also owns The Times of India.Twitter users were ROFL (Rolling On the Floor Laughing) after users posted images of the ad in the matrimonial classifieds section of the Mirror. A lot of gleeful tweets were posted, and many tried to guess who was behind them. BuzzFeed, which likely reported the development first, quoted The Hindu’s CEO Rajiv Lochan as saying that he could not imagine that his staff was behind the cheeky advertisement. This is just #brilliant! The Hindu #trolls TOI - A Matrimonial Ad. http://t.co/h8uPLGpgjv pic.twitter.com/PbGIQ7NOhh — Anusha Sharma (@anooshaaaa) June 7, 2015   The Hindu posted an ad in TOI. http://t.co/wGeF8J3SeD — Swapnil Deopurkar (@swapnild) June 7, 2015   The Hindu's ad in Times of India. If true, this is an #EpicTroll pic.twitter.com/lY4bHhlLsb — Rohit Chopra (@balrohitchopra) June 7, 2015   And methinks the Hindu picks up some marketing brownie points with this matrimonial ad in the Mumbai Mirror. pic.twitter.com/sjGRMR6rHS — Nimish Dubey (@nimishdubey) June 7, 2015   @mokkai_mak @schmmuck Actually somebody trolled Mumbai Mirror — Tide Iril (@tideiril) June 7, 2015   @mokkai_mak @NftyBncBackMode In fact Hindu verifies even obituary news by asking the dead man to confirm. So authentic — Sriram (@Raminations) June 7, 2015
