1. In what could adversely impact thousands of students, two major state universities in Telangana, Osmania University (OU) and Kakatiya University (KU), are staring at a severe staff crunch with 40% of its senior professors across various departments up for retirement in 2015-16. The lack of action by the government for recruitment of regular staff is only set to make matters worse, the Times of India reports. 2. A court in Hyderabad on Tuesday granted bail to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator Sandra Venkata Veeraiah in the cash-for-vote case. The court gave him conditional bail on a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakh and directed him not to leave his constituency - Sattupalli in Telangana's Khammam district. Alerted by the stampede in Rajahmundry leading to casualties, the Telangana Government on Tuesday stepped up its security arrangements and rushed Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and DGP Anurag Sharma to Bhadrachalam and Kaleswaram, where the rush of pilgrims would be the highest. Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal on Tuesday created a flutter again when he entered the Ranga Reddy court with a book and showed it off to the media. Police officials took away the book, while prison officials said that it could be a notebook he keeps with him. During his first appearance before the court, Bhatkal threw a letter at reporters stating he was under a life threat, Deccan Chronicle reports. 5. A district consumer forum in Hyderabad directed ‘More’ super market to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation to a senior citizen, who found insects in a packet of Moong Dal he bought about 20 months ago. S.Viswanadham purchased 1 kg Moong Dal from the Chikadapally branch of ‘More’ super market on November 7, 2013. He went back to the super market immediately to show them the insects in the packet but got no reply. Left with no option, he filed a complaint in the district consumer forum to get compensation.
